MUSIC
I teach piano, violin and music theory, predominately from my home music room. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning after a break or looking to polish up existing skills, I will work with you to meet your own goals and interests.
Developing musicianship is not just about learning a series of pieces. I strongly advocate learning technical skills and music theory alongside a breadth of repertoire, in order to provide a strong foundation and appreciation of music.
For those who are interested in taking exams, I teach to the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) syllabus and am registered to enter candidates. ABRSM exams are recognised worldwide and have a
points value that can be used for UCAS applications.

PIANO
A versatile instrument that is used to play many styles of music. The piano is initially a relatively easy instrument to play, as producing a sound - that is immediately in tune and pleasant sounding - is as simple as pressing a key!

VIOLIN
The violin remains a popular choice of instrument. It is a relatively inexpensive instrument and whilst certainly challenging, can be incredibly rewarding. It is also ideal for those looking to participate in group music - whether small ensembles or full orchestras.

THEORY
Theory is the written language of music. It helps you understand what and how you play. Theory allows you to realise the composer’s original directions before adding your own interpretation.
CURRICULUM TUITION
With increasing demands on what is included in the curriculum, it can seem as if time for ‘the basics’ is being eroded. I fundamentally believe that in order to build high, the foundations must be absolutely solid! Any gaps in knowledge or lack of confidence can impact the rate and/or the extent of progress.
In the wake of the disruption to education for everyone over the last few years, this is more relevant now than ever.

ENGLISH & MATHS
I offer tuition in English and Maths, from Primary to GCSE.
From phonics to analysing texts, number bonds to algebra, I can provide step by step help to bridge gaps and develop confidence.

GCSE MUSIC
GCSE Music is comprised of 3 components: Performing 30%, Composing 30% and Written Assessment 40%.
I can support students throughout the course and with the all-important revision.
ASSESSMENT

No matter your opinion on testing, it remains the main way that academic ability and progress are assessed.
Students may need a second opinion or a second opportunity due to extenuating circumstances at the time of school testing.
They may need a chance to be assessed at times other than the end of term or end of year, when moving schools or even countries.
I can provide detailed testing in English and Maths based on National Curriculum programmes of study and government testing from 5 - 16 years.
Examples
Family C - Student assessed to help provide evidence towards an application for additional learning support.
Family T - Moving to England. Two students assessed and information passed on to new schools to enable suitable class placements.
Family M - Planning to move to England in the next 6 - 9 months. Two students assessed. Assessments provided framework for an educational plan to bring the students learning in line with their age-appropriate classes.
